Let’s be honest, we Gen Xers were skilled at playing sick, were we not? Our generation had to work hard for a sick day. Many of our parents worked and would have to take a sick day themselves, and let’s not forget, our parents were raised by hard core parents (our grandparents), who sent them to school no matter what. Hello, their parents were the one’s who walked five miles to get to school, up hill, in snow … so a sniffle or the plague wasn’t gonna cut it.
That’s what we had to contend with. Which is why, we learned early on that we had to be Ferris Bueller convincing or we were going to school (heck on occasion we weren’t convincing enough, even when we actually were sick!).
Yes, we truly perfected an art form and nowadays it seems our kids are merely phoning it in. Complaining about random aches, not committing to their performance, it’s embarrassing! Which is why I give their generation this:
8 Tips To Properly Play Sick – How to gain your parent’s sympathy and maybe even regain their respect:
1. Complain about the appropriate body parts and stay focused. There is a general list of pains and woes we parents find acceptable to lend our sympathy to: stomach aches, headaches, sore throats, nausea. Pick one and don’t stray. Don’t lead in with a stomach ache and think that adding a toothache, leg cramp, or shooting pain in the elbow is going to help your cause. That’s an insult to our intelligence. Stay the course … a thousand points of light …
2. NEVER fake a cold. Moms can tell a real cough, stuffy nose, congested chest from a fake one. Oh, we’re that good, which is why the dry Sahara Desert cough is a dead giveaway that you can and should be going to school. And never blow your nose unless there’s something in there. The “faux nose blow” is a one way ticket to the carpool lane. Remember this trusty phrase: “No phlegm or snot, home you will be not.”
3. Avoid immediate trips to the doctor or the ER. A fake sick day is totally wasted if you don’t get to enjoy it, duh! Here is a short list of complaints that will get you a trip to the doctor or ER without passing go (never say these things, unless they’re true).
- “I’m having trouble breathing.”
- “I can’t swallow.”
- “I feel like something inside me exploded.”
- “My head is really itchy”
- “It burns when I pee.”
4. Avoid trips to a therapist’s office. Getting too creative could send you straight to the shrink’s cushy couch. Avoid fantastical verbiage like:
- “My eyes feel wiggly”
- “I think I have amnesia, who are you?”
- “I have an invisible rash.”
- “I’m seeing four of you and they’re not all doing the same thing.”
5. Don’t oversell it. We don’t have little gold statues to give out, though many a morning we wish we did. When you act so sick that you can’t move, and then you fall to the floor from your bed as if you attempted to rise but just couldn’t muster the energy, and then you lay on the floor like a sad sick seal moaning and only lifting your head, it takes everything in us not to fall to the ground laughing and later sign you up for Julliard.
6. Understand the concept of temperature. Listen children, you cannot have a 107.2 body temperature and have a conversation — or a pulse, for that matter. We get that figuring out a way to alter your thermometer is like the kid equivalent of MacGyver using a toothpick and a piece of gum disarm a bomb, but understand the highest temperature does not win a prize — just a funny Facebook status update.
7. Never talk about school. When trying to avoid the S-word, don’t discuss it in any fashion. Don’t tell us you wish you could go, but alas you’re so sick. Don’t mention that you have a test or unfinished homework. Don’t talk about an annoying enemy at the playground or even a tutor that will have to be cancelled due to your unfortunate absence. We will put two and two together. Yep, we don’t even need a tutor to do that.
8. Always remember, we’re not as stupid as you think we are. Though it’s hard to imagine, we were kids once too and we tried every trick in the book … twice.
Follow these simple rules and you’ll be wrongfully staying home from school in no time. That’s right, you CAN fool us, or at the very least make us proud trying.
BTW Today, my son, J, complained of a stomach ache … leg ache … elbow ache … and a nasty hang nail (which he could not find to show me, but assured me was painful, though not visible).REALLY? He went with a hangnail/stomach/leg/elbow ache? I expected so much more. Then Ry (my daughter), followed up with, “ditto,” as if they were both afflicted by the same stomach/leg/elbow ailment. ”Oh naive girl, when the ship is sinking don’t hop onboard!”Here’s a pic from my day… They look really sick, right? DON’T JUDGE – I thought they could use a “personal” day and I was super tired. Gen Xers aren’t stupid, but we’re suckers.Show Me the Love, Please Take a Sec to Share or Like or Pin This Piece

How To Play
View the Player's Handbook here.
How will you help your party make it through this adventure alive?
Will you cleave your foes with your +1 Longsword? Will you command the forces of the arcane against your party's foes? Will you bolster your party with a rousing tune? Or will you use healing spells to cure their wounds?
The cool design of True Dungeon is that the degree of success you have with your chosen action is not done by a simple dice roll. Rather, every character class has a special, real world test that they must perform in order to successful attack, cast a spell, or pick a lock.
Character Class Cards
There are 12 different classes to choose from in True Dungeon. Each player must play a different class. Once character classes are picked, each player receives a full-color printed character class card that they use throughout the adventure. Players get to keep the card as a souvenir.
Most players use the 4th level player Character Cards, but there are magic items that can boost a character to 5th level. Above is what the 5th level Elf Wizard Card looks like. You can see all the Character Card images in the Resources section HERE.
You don't roll dice in True Dungeon. It is up to you to succeed!
When you attack a monster in a True Dungeon event you don't roll a d20 as is the case in many tabletop role playing games. Rather, instead of luck controlling the fate of your attack, the result of the swing is determined by your hand and eye coordination!
In the world of True Dungeon, magic plays an important role. Wizards are masters of devastating arcane power which they can use to cause massive damage to terrible foes! Clerics, with their divine healing and curative abilities, are often the only thing standing between a fellow adventurer and certain death. Druids commune with nature to not only to bring forth healing, but to command the elements themselves as mighty weapons.
Bards' magic is varied and practical, but in addition, they can inspire their companions through their magical gifts of music and song as well as offer useful information on how to defect a monster.
Magic occurs in two forms within the dungeon. The classes above have spells at their command which they may cast at any time. When casting these spells, each class performs a task unique to them in order to display their prowess and maximize the effectiveness of their magic. Also, some characters may use scrolls. Scrolls are treasure tokens that are consumed upon use.

In addition to combat and class skills, there are many other challenges that await players in True Dungeon. Most of these challenges take the form of puzzles and creative problem solving tasks. There are also physical challenges such as walking a balance beam or dodging a foam dart.
Every player receives at least three Treasure Chips at the conclusion of their adventure. In the Epilogue Area, a Treasure Chip can be exchanged for a random pull from the Treasure Generator.
Tokens are never hidden inside the adventure, so don't waste your time (or damage the sets) looking for tokens.

In addition to Treasure Chips, players receive Experience Points (XP) at the end of their adventure. Your XP accumulates over time, just like in D&D, eventually letting YOU (not your character) gain levels! With higher levels come special abilities and privileges. You can track your XP by clicking the 'Xth Level Player' link in the upper left of every page on this site.

Earning Player XP: The Player XP you earn depends on the challenge rating of the adventure you ran.
- Non-Lethal: 650 (no per room bonus)
- Normal: 650 + 50 per room entered
- Hardcore: 1,650 + 50 per room entered
- Nightmare: 1,650 + 50 per room entered (same as Hardcore)
- Epic: 1,650 + 50 per room entered (same as Hardcore)
Your character does not need to survive the room to earn Player XP, your character merely needs to enter the room alive to earn XP for that room. E.g., if your character died in room 7 (the final room), you would still receive full XP for that adventure because your character entered the room alive.
Stacking Player XP: You earn Player XP based on the highest challenge level you ran. E.g., if you survived Dancing Among Stones on Normal, you would earn 1,000 XP. But if you later survived Dancing Among Stones on Hardcore (or Nightmare, since they earn the same XP), you would earn a total of 2,000 XP--not 3,000. Repeating the same dungeon on the same difficulty does not earn additional XP--unless your character entered additional rooms in the adventure. E.g., if your first attempt at running Dancing Among Stones on Hardcore resulted in your character dying in room 6, you would earn 1,950 XP. But if you later ran Dancing Among Stones on Hardcore (or Nightmare) and made it to room 7--whether your character survived or not--you would earn a total of 2,000 for that adventure, thus making up the 50 XP deficit from your first run. Once you reach the XP cap of a particular adventure, playing that same adventure does not earn you any additional XP. For the purposes of calculating XP, combat and puzzle versions of the same-named adventure count as the same adventure. E.g., surviving both the puzzle and combat versions of Dancing Among Stones on Hardcore (or Nightmare) would earn a total of 2,000 XP--not 2,000 each. The same-named adventure run at different conventions counts as a single adventure for XP purposes. E.g., running Dancing Among Stones at both Gen Con and Gamehole Con counts as one adventure. If you run the same-named adventure on different challenge levels at different conventions, you earn Player XP for the highest level you ran. E.g., in you survived Dancing Among Stones on Normal at Gen Con and then later survived Dancing Among Stones on Hardcore (or Nightmare) at Gamehole Con, you would earn a total of 2,000 XP for that adventure.
Player Level vs. Character Level: Your player level has absolutely nothing to do with your character’s level and vice versa. Attaining 5th-level as a player does not mean you automatically play a 5th-level character. Only tokens can increase your character’s level. Similarly, having tokens that allow you to play a 5th-level character does not entitle you to 5th-level player benefits.
Completion Tokens: Non-Lethal and Normal adventurers receive an Uncommon completion token. Hardcore adventurers receive a Rare completion token. Nightmare or Epic adventurers receive both the Uncommon and Rare completion tokens.
Q: Now that my XP has been entered, how do I get my stuff?
A: It's as easy as 1-2-3.
- Go to the TD Store. (The link is at the top of this page or just click here.)
- Find the item you're now qualified for and click its [Add to cart] button.
- Check out.
There is a $5 shipping fee, but you're more than welcome to claim your Level Reward with another purchase or a Transmute order. They'll all be shipped to you together for the one $5 shipping charge.
Q: Can I get my Level Reward shipped with another person's Level Reward so we don't have to pay the shipping fee twice?
A: Yes! When more than one person wants to combine shipping for a Level Reward, this is how to do it:
- Before anyone places any order, the players need to determine who the items will be shipped to. We'll refer to the person who will receive all the items as the Primary.
- Each player places their own order for the item(s) they need--preferably at nearly the same time.
- Every non-Primary player needs to put in the Notes field that they would like their order to be shipped to the Primary. Be certain to include the Primary's name and mailing address. The non-Primary players don't all have to email us, simply putting it in the Notes field is fine.
The Primary cannot just say, 'Ship all these other orders to me.' - When we ship the items, we refund all but the Primary's shipping charges.
We ask folks to do it this way so our order system knows when a person has claimed their Level Reward.
Tokens have been a very popular component of True Dungeon since they were introduced at Gen Con So Cal in 2003. Tokens were added so players could experience one of the most interesting and fun parts of adventuring--getting treasure! Treasure Tokens are heavy, and combined with their 'gold' color, they have the weight and appearance of a gold piece. Our tokens are VERY durable, water-resistant, and have a special clear laminate that protects the full-color image quite well. Nearly all tokens feature the current year embossed on the back to deter counterfeiting.
The tokens that come in a standard ten-pack are organized into Common, Uncommon, Rare and Ultra Rare rarity groups. Each pack of Treasure Tokens contains:
- Seven random Common tokens*
- Two random Uncommon tokens
- One random Rare token
*1 out of 100 ten-packs come with one Ultra Rare token in place of one of the Common tokens!
Every player receives a free pack of 10 random Treasure Tokens at the start of their adventure, but players can also purchase tokens online at this website. You can order tokens now by clicking on the STORE tab or by clicking on the TD STORE graphic below. Some players become collectors and trade tokens throughout the year on the TD Forums.
Below are the images of the 153 tokens in the 2021 Treasure Token Collection. You can see higher resolution images of the tokens at the very bottom of this page in the Image Gallery. You can find out vital info on the 2021 Treasure Token Collection by reading our free 'Quick Token Reference' which is now available for DOWNLOAD HERE or by visiting the Token Database.
(Seven out of the ten tokens in a pack are Common.)
(Two out of the ten tokens in a pack are Uncommon.)
(One out of the ten tokens in a pack is Rare.)
(1 out of 100 Packs have a random Ultra Rare put in place of a Common)
High resolution images can be found in the Image Gallery at the bottom of this page. While viewing on a PC or tablet be sure to click on the 'two diagonal arrows' icon to zoom into the image.
NOTE: With each $250+ token purchase, you can pick one of the above 2021 Ultra Rare tokens to be included in your order for FREE. You can also select from any 2020 Ultra Rare--which can be viewed HERE. Multiples of $250 token purchases apply, so if you place a $500 order, you get to pick TWO FREE Ultra Rares tokens. Multiple sub-$250 orders may not be combined to achieve the $250 free Ultra Rare premium. There is a special screen that appears during checkout to use to tell us which UR tokens you wish to pick.
2021 Transmuted Tokens
We created a fun system that you can use to craft limited-edition tokens with your unused and left-over tokens. Larger images of the Transmuted tokens can be found in the Image Gallery at the bottom of the page. These Transmuted tokens will be available to transmute on our website starting February 1st, 2021. Complete information about our limited-edition Transmuted Tokens can be found HERE.

- Nine (9) random 2021 Ultra Rare tokens (Also, there is a chance of getting a 10th random Ultra Rare token in your order!)

- A set of Onyx tokens of the 2021 Common, Uncommon and Rare (but no Ultra Rare) tokens.
- One (1) über-rare Wish Ring.
- One (1) über-rare Orb of Dragonkind (Ancient) token.
There will be a different Dragonkind token made each year from 2015-2022, and all eight can be transmuted in 2022 into the Supreme Orb of Dragonkind. A Grand Orb of Dragonkind (requiring only 5 different tokens) can also be made at that time. The details of each what benefits these transmuted tokens bestow are shrouded in mystery at this time. - One (1) über-rare Patron Lapel Pin which allows you to enjoy the TD Patron benefits. We are still planning the specifics, but it should be an event that only Patron's can play. Additionally, Patrons have the first chance to buy event tickets at all virtual True Dungeon events in 2021.
- Four (4) Limited-edition Adventurers’ Guild entrance buttons. Each person wearing an AG button receives access to the exclusive Adventurers’ Guild bag check service at Gen Con and Gamehole Con. Option #3: No Onyxes & 34 URs
The same as Option #1, but instead of receiving any Onyx tokens, you may pick two more Ultra Rare tokens (34 total) for free during check out.

The Golden Ticket
We randomly inserted 60 special Golden Ticket tokens into the 2021 token collection. Instead of a Common token, you could get one of these über-cool tokens in your ten-pack. Details for the Golden Ticket Event can be found at the URL printed on the token. Golden Ticket participants get a host of extra goodies which include a completely awesome pack of über-rare and powerful tokens and an exclusive GT-only surprise inside your True Dungeon adventure.
Gen Con Ticket Draw
In March, we hold a special drawing from the names of all that year's token buyers to date. Ten lucky token buyers will win. Each winner may pre-purchase up to 10 TD tickets at Gen Con (from one slot) before anyone else! Winners are contacted immediately after the drawing. They have one week to pick their event slot and pay for the tickets. If we do not hear back from a winner by the end of that week, another name is drawn. True Dungeon event tickets go on sale for everyone in May. For every ten-pack you buy, we put your name in a virtual hat. Winners are guaranteed to get the exact slot they want without having to worry about the craziness during event registration. You still must pay for the tickets at the normal price.
REMEMBER: The more tokens you buy, the greater your chance of winning!
Multi-year Set from 2020-2022
The Shirt of the Nimble (2021 Ultra Rare) is the second token in a four-year Arcane-item Transmutable set. When you have all four Ultra Rare shirts collected (in 2023), you can transmute them into an 'über shirt' token which combines the powers from each of the four shirts.
Condensed Packs ($1K each)
Some token collectors don't want to spend a lot of time opening hundreds of ten-packs of tokens. They asked if we could make a condensed version available that would look like what 120 ten-packs would be AFTER the Common tokens were turned in for Trade tokens. Condensed packs save collectors the hassle of opening up all those ten-packs, sorting them, and then sending them off to be exchanged for Trade tokens. During the Check Out process, you'll be given the opportunity to select what portion of your order you'd like to be Condensed.
Instead of getting the normal 120 packs, you receive the following for each Condensed Pack:
How To Play Generals Zero Hour Online

During the Check Out process, you'll be given the opportunity to select whether or not you want your order to be Super Condensed.
Instead of getting the normal 960 ten-packs, you receive the following for each $8K Super Condensed Pack:

How To Play Genshin Impact
Congratulations! Well done!
How To Play Genji
'This is nuts!! How did this all come about?', you may be asking yourself. Well, it all started with a DM named Jeff Martin and a cool stick...
How To Play General Grievous
The True Dungeon module that you will be running through at GenCon has a long evolutionary track that started in 1997, when Dungeon Master Jeff Martin decided to host an all weekend game-a-thon with five of his gamer buddies.
